Lawn Making
Lawn forms an essential part of a modern home. A good lawn
is therefore a great asset for a happy home. Here are 10 tips to make a lush
green beautiful lawn.
Tips For a Good Lawn:
The lawn should be dug up first 12" (300mm) deep and as far as possible in clods in the month of May or early June (before monsoon). The clods should be broken with the first rain and dug-up portion ploughed down. The dried up weeds and other matter should be collected and taken out after ploughing. The field should be cleaned of all roughage and pulverized by ploughings. At least 2 to 3 ploughings are necessary. This should be followed by planking.
Well rotten cow dung manure should be applied before the last ploughing and is done at the rate of 25kg per 10 square meters.
This lawn should be leveled up by small spade maintaining proper slope for drainage, about middle of July (in mid Monsoon).
Step 4:
After rough dressing, if it does not rain, it should be irrigated and weeds should be taken out. After fine dressing, grass may be planted (mid of July to end of August). Grass seeds may be used but precautions should be taken so that it should not be washed out or eaten by birds. Seeds to be protected by pressing it slightly into the soil. Grass cuttings should be planted by making holes in the field by means of nails at 2" to 3" apart. Portion of grass put into the hole should be pressed. Watering should be done in the morning and evening.
After the grass takes root, the lawn should be kept watered in the usual course unless natural rain falls.
When the grass has grown fully, first dose of urea at the rate of 2.5 kg per 100 sq.m. should be applied in the middle of August to middle of September.
At first the grass should be allowed to grow, when quite big it should be cut by sickle and then by lawnmower.
A similar dose of urea should applied again after a month ( end of September).
NOW YOUR LAWN LOOKS LUSH GREEN.
